At The Cross

We had awesome services yesterday at my church. There was just such a sweet spirit. It just seemed like everyone there was in one accord, that we all had come there for the same purpose, and that purpose was to worship God.
The morning sermon was great. It was titled, "This Man." It pointed to different times that Jesus was called, "This man," in the Bible, and it brought out how Jesus was so much more than a man. He was God, and He had come with a purpose. An eternal purpose to save us from our sins.
The point that hit me so much was the point where my grandpa (my preacher) mentioned the thief on the cross. The thief spoke about how Jesus didn't deserve the cross. He didn't deserve to suffer because Jesus had done no wrong.
That thief was saved at the cross. He realized that he was a sinner, and he believed on Jesus.
We must do the same thing today. It's no different. We all must be saved at the cross. That thought brings to mind one of my favorite old hymns:

At the cross, at the cross
Where I first saw the light,
And the burdens of my heart rolled away.
It was there by faith,
I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day.

The only way to receive true and complete happiness is the turn to the cross and accept what Jesus did there.
Read Luke 23. Remember what Jesus did on the cross for you. Of course the story doesn't end at the cross, Jesus rose again and won the victory over death, hell, and the grave, but He had to go to that cross to pay the payment for your sins and for mine.

What a wonderful post! Would love to hear your grandpa sometime. Thanks for reminding me of a beautiful hymn. I will be going around all day singing to myself!

Amen, Heather. The cross of Christ is the great divide between all other religions and Christianity. Whereas others tell us to "work" or "follow," Christ bids us to come and die. The cross is the great leveler -- at its feet rich and poor, slave and free, are equally undone. The cross tells us the truth about ourselves, our condition and our God...

Heather... you are simply adorable. I love your enthusiasm and love for our Lord and Savior... it is so contagious!

Praise God, we have a Redeemer ... He died so that we could live, he rose again, so we could have the eternal life.

Thank you, sweet one, for the reminder!
